Summer Learning 2017

Math and Reading:

Summer Math & Reading Log (download and print)

Students entering grades one through eight are asked to complete summer math and reading as outlined below:

In math:   We are asking that students entering grades 1-8 spend between 30 and 60 minutes a week sharpening their math skills. Students entering grades 1-5 are to do their math practice by accessing math websites and keeping track of the times.   Please keep a math log of the time spent and return this log in the fall for extra credit in math. Parents must sign the log. If you do not have internet access at home it is available from your public library or you can come here to school on Wednesdays from 9:00 -10:00 (see the dates below). For a list of recommend websites, please click here.

Students going into 5th grade:
Memorize multiplication tables up to 15×15

Students going into 6th grade:
Complete chapter 11 on measurement from your 5th grade book.

Students going into 7th grade:
Complete the packet sent home by Mrs. Schweitzer, which includes workbook pages 98-106.  To help you, use pages 288-303 of your 6th grade textbook.

Students going into 8th grade:
Complete the packet sent home by Mrs. Schweitzer, which includes workbook pages 130-137.  To help you, use pages 380-387 of your 7th grade textbook.

For those parents who do not have internet access or who would like for their children to have some help with the workbook pages, the computer room will be open for math websites or for math help from 9:00 – 10:00 on Wednesdays.

In reading: We are asking that students entering grades 1-8 read between 30 and 60 minutes a week during the summer. Any of the books through the public library that interest them will be acceptable. Like the math, we are asking that students keep a reading log over the summer, and teachers will give them an opportunity to earn extra reading credit in the fall through their summer reading.

In addition, those entering grades 5-8 are asked write one summary of one of the books that they have read for their extra credit.

Summer hours at school are 9:00 -3:00 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Call school with any questions or come up on Wednesday between 9:00 – 10:00 for individual help.

All logs and extra credit work summaries and pages are due no later than Friday, August 25th.
