Technology

Mission Statement: Students who are to be successful in this global society must have the ability to use current and emerging technologies in an efficient, responsible and Christian manner.  The tasks of accessing information, communicating with others and managing the huge amount of data and information now available can be made manageable by the use of technological tools.  Technology use and instruction should be integrated across the curriculum in order for students to understand how to creatively apply appropriate technologies in varied situations.  Students should also gain an understanding of the legal and moral ramifications of the indiscriminate use of the Internet and begin to make personal decisions to use technology in a responsible and life-affirming way.

General Technology Goals

          Students will be able to:

  • Describe the different components of computer hardware and give their function in a computer system.
  • Learn the proper use of computers and disks.
  • Use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply and communicate information.
  • Use proper keyboarding skills.
  • Demonstrate good research skills utilizing the Internet and know how to site the Internet as an information source.
  • Understand the proper use of software applications such as word processing and presentation software to display work, data and information.
  • Learn how to use technology to enhance curriculum in math, science, language, religion, social studies, art, music and PE.
  • Learn how to use creative software to design cards, add graphics and draw using lines, circles, rectangles and other tools.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create multi-media presentations using platforms such as PowerPoint, Windows MovieMaker etc.
  • Develop positive attitudes towards technology uses that support lifelong learning and develop ethical, moral and responsible attitudes towards the use of technological systems.

Grade Level Technology Goals 

Kindergarten:

 Students will be able to:

  • Use the mouse, keyboard, arrow keys and space bar.
  • Use age-level programs on the computer and interact with them successfully.
  • Read all the letters on the keyboard and type their first name.

First Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of Kindergarten and be able to:

  • Use Microsoft Word technology to create simple stories.
  • Type their full name

Second Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Use Microsoft Word to type multi-paragraph stories from drafts.
  • Use the Internet to navigate teacher-generated web sites.
  • Create and print out word documents

Third Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Find student files
  • Find teacher-directed internet sites and download information from these sites.
  • Properly site internet sources when using information from a site.
  • Use a keyboarding program to improve their typing skills.
  • Use computer software as a resources for practice in various curricular areas and as a study aid
  • Create cards for special occasions using various graphics.

Fourth Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Cut, copy and paste and know how to add graphics to various works.
  • Use Microsoft Word to create letters
  • Improve typing skills through the use of a typing tutor

Fifth Grade:

 Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Create simple power point presentations
  • Create simple spread sheets
  • Learn to use the calculator on the computer

Sixth Grade: 

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Create simple research papers using various sources including the internet
  • Know how to site internet sources in a bibliography
  • Be able to use Microsoft Word tool box to create brochures, flyers and various types of creative writing such as poetry

Seventh Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Create Power Point Presentations that include video clips from various sources
  • Understand and be able to use Microsoft Excel software

Eighth Grade:

Students will be able to accomplish all the goals of previous grades and be able to:

  • Create a yearbook using various technological tools
  • Create a refined Power Point presentation that includes music, an opening title and credits
  • Use a flash-drive to save and carry files
